It wasn’t long ago that the wedge apocalypse appeared to be upon us, thanks to the impending rollback on grooves. Fast forward to 2012. The new crop of “condition of competition” wedges still produces less spin on certain shots than models with aggressive “pre-2010” grooves. According to our testers, however, the gap is narrowing. That’s because clever club designers are developing new and different ways to squeeze out every bit of spin within the Rules of Golf. The new wedges also provide consistent spin rates from shot to shot for predictable results.
